Detroit Tigers will retire Lou Whitaker’s jersey next season

For some fans, it’s about damn time.

The Detroit Tigers will be retiring the No. 1 jersey in honor of Lou Whitaker.

He spent 19 seasons with the team. He was a member of the 1984 team that won a World Series championship.

Whitaker was also a five-time All Star, won four Silver Slugger awards and three Gold Gloves, and was named the 1978 American League Rookie of the Year.

Whitaker’s jersey retirement will be next August sometime.
