Richard Sherman explains why he turned down offer by Detroit Lions

There was a point in time where all-pro NFL cornerback Richard Sherman had to make a very important decision in his career. He was leaving the Seattle Seahawks where he won a Super Bowl and had to find a new home via free agency.

One team pushing for Sherman was the Detroit Lions. Sherman turned down their offer and signed with the San Francisco 49ers instead. He’s now playing in yet another Super Bowl.

Here’s what he told David Lombardi from The Athletic about his free agency decision:

“I have fun. I like music at practice. I like to hang out and be relaxed in meetings. I don’t like the stressful environment in football. [The Lions] condition every day after practice. My body isn’t built to run all day and night. I’ll be prepared, but I don’t have to be run into the ground.”

Sherman went on to say that he could’ve received $20 million in guaranteed money from the Lions but decided to turn it down because of their culture.
