Tuesday at 4 pm marks the deadline for all NFL teams to get their rosters to 53 players in preparation for the start of the regular season next week. In regards to those Detroit Lions, they wasted no time in making a few notable moves that began yesterday (Monday) with the release of Breshad Perriman (WR) after a lackluster preseason showing. Perriman came to Detroit via free agency, and the Lions will end up eating $2 million of his $2.5 million contract. Below are the moves the Lions made yesterday to begin the week:

This morning, the Lions made the decision to cut former 2019 second-round pick Jahlani Tavai (LB), who like Perriman, struggled to gain any traction during the preseason.
Lions are waiving third-year linebacker Jahlani Tavai, the 43rd overall second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, per source. They tried to trade him but no takers.

In addition, General Manager Brad Holmes and company added to their current thin wide receiver room in trading with the Denver Broncos for Trinity Benson.
Broncos have traded WR Trinity Benson to Lions in exchange for 5th and 7th-round draft picks in 2022 per source. Lions also get 6th-rd pick in 2023. Paton gets value by dealing from one of deepest positions. Benson gets chance he wouldn’t have in Denver crowded WR room. #9sports
