The Detroit Lions continue their reunion with former standout players this Sunday when Darius Slay and the Philadelphia Eagles come to Ford Field before their Bye Week hits.
It’ll be the first time Slay plays in Detroit since being traded to the Eagles back in March of 2020 in exchange for a third-round and fifth-round pick. Prior to the trade, Slay’s last few years in Detroit were not pleasant due to former head coach Matt Patricia’s all-business approach that didn’t mesh well with his colorful personality.
After the first day of joint practices with the New York Giants during training camp in 2018, Slay posted a photo of himself guarding then-Giants receiver Odell Beckham. Patricia opened the next meeting by trying to embarrass Slay for the post.
“Stop sucking this man’s (expletive),” Patricia said in front of the entire team.
Eventually, Slay was relieved to get out of Detroit, and had some choice to say about Patricia after the trade occurred:
“I didn’t have that much respect for Matty P as a person. It was hard for me to play for him. That’s all that was.”
Will the Lions pick up their first win of the season on Sunday at home against the Eagles, or will they continue to be the only winless NFL team with an 0-8 record?
