It’s not Carlos Correa, but the Detroit Tigers have reportedly found their hopeful long term solution at shortstop as former Chicago Cub and New York Met Javy Baez, aka “El Mago,” has reportedly agreed to a six-year, $140-million deal to come to Detroit.
The soon-to-be 29-year-old has been widely known as one of the best defensive infielders in the game and is a career .264 hitter totaling 149 homers and 465 runs batted in. However, Baez is also known as a wild swinger at the plate striking out 953 times compared to drawing just 156 walks.
Baez is a 2016 World Series Champion, a two-time All-Star, a Gold Glove winner in 2020, a 2018 Silver Slugger recipient, and a 2018 NL MVP runner-up, all as a member of the Cubs.
Tigers fans, what do you think of the Javy Baez signing?
