Former West Michigan Whitecap Cameron Maybin Announces Retirement

Cameron Maybin, who played in almost 1,200 Major League Baseball games over the course of 15 seasons, recently announced his retirement following a well-traveled career that saw him play with ten different MLB teams that included three as a member of the Detroit Tigers during three different seasons (2007, 2016, 2020).

Maybin was drafted by the Tigers with the 10th overall pick during the 2005 MLB Draft and spent the 2006 season with the Midwest League Champion West Michigan Whitecaps.

During the 2006 championship season in West Michigan, Maybin played in 101 games hitting .304 to go with 9 HR, 69 RBI, and 27 steals. As a Tiger, Maybin hit .289 to go with 6 HR, 47 RBI, and 20 steals. The 34-year-old spent the majority of his Major League playing days with the San Diego Padres and Florida/Miami Marlins (four seasons each).
