Following their 44-6 embarrassment on Halloween at home against the Philadelphia Eagles, Dan Campbell decided to shake some things up on the offensive side of the ball. Campbell ended up using the Lions’ Bye Week to make a change at the offensive play-caller position slotting him in that spot in place of Anthony Lynn.
Since the switch, the Lions’ offense has statistically gotten better averaging 19.3 points per game compared to the 16.8 points they averaged the first eight weeks of the season. Also, their yards per game have dropped slightly, from 321.1 to 313.9, but they’ve run the ball better, 130.3 ypg since the bye vs. 93.1 ypg with Lynn as play-caller, and have hit fewer bumps as an offense.
As we look ahead to the 2022 season, the question facing Campbell is: Should be the team’s offensive coordinator next season?
Here’s what Campbell had to say about the switch to calling offensive plays in the second half of the season:
“I know that I’m getting a lot more comfortable and I feel like this is something that I do believe I can do and be good at. But I’m not ready to commit to what I’m doing next year yet. I got to sit down and process this at the right time.”
