Dan Campbell and his coaching staff are going to be doing a little extra work on the field this offseason as the Detroit Lions were tabbed as one of the teams that will send their coaching staff to the upcoming Reese’s Senior Bowl held in Mobile, Alabama on Saturday, February 5th at 2:30 pm.
The New York Jets will be the other team involved.
According to the Reese’s Senior Bowl website, for the first time in the game’s history, head coaches will serve in more an advisory capacity while promoting select assistants into leadership roles on the staff (e.g. running backs coach to head coach, secondary coach to defensive coordinator, etc.). This new change will offer position coaches and coordinators developmental opportunities in a setting that showcases their skills in front of peers from all 32 clubs.
Both teams hold two of the top four teams in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft in late April. The Lions last coached the Senior Bowl in 2020 where Matt Patricia lead the North team to a 34-17 victory over the South team.
