A Familiar Face: Lloyd McClendon Hired As The Mud Hens’ New Manager For 2022; Gary Jones Promoted To First Base Coach

The Detroit Tigers announced two coaching staff moves as the organization has promoted Gary Jones to be their new first base coach following the tragic passing of Kimera Bartee at the age of 49 just before Christmas.

Jones was initially hired back in early December to be the Toledo Mud Hens’ skipper at the Triple-A level.

In response to the Jones promotion, the Tigers and Mud Hens recently announced a new manager to take the place of Jones in Lloyd McClendon, who’s been involved with the Tigers organization in past as a hitting coach, bullpen coach, and bench coach.

McClendon also managed the Mud Hens back in 2006 guiding Toledo to a 68-76 record in his first season as a manager at the minor league level.
