Steve Yzerman has a new right hand man following the recent departure of Pat Verbeek to Anaheim Ducks as Shawn Horcoff as been promoted as the new Red Wings assistant general manager while also serving as the general manager for their American Hockey League affiliate in the Grand Rapids Griffins.
According to the Detroit Red Wings release, Horcoff spent the last six seasons as Red Wings director of player development, in addition to the last three seasons as assistant director of player personnel. Horcoff will work alongside Yzerman on all hockey operations matters for the Red Wings, in addition to being responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Griffins, including personnel decisions, contract negotiations, and player movement.
Pat Verbeek spent the last three seasons as assistant general manager of the Red Wings and has spent 36 years in the NHL with the last 16 coming as an executive.
