The Detroit Tigers made a late Spring Training splash prior to Friday’s season opener in getting some outfield help to replace the recently injured Riley Greene.
Late Monday night, the Tigers struck a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays that resulted in OF Austin Meadows going to Detroit in exchange for IF Isaac Paredes and a competitive balance-B draft pick.
The four-year pro is coming off a career year in 2021 that included hitting .234 with 27 home runs and 106 RBI. Meadows was also an All-Star in 2019 and received American League MVP votes in 2019 (finished 14th) and 2021 (finished 20th).
Paredes could never find a consistent place in the Tigers lineup the past two seasons and only hit .215 with 2 home runs and 11 RBI in 57 games played with Detroit.
