Former Detroit Pistons legend and 14-year NBA veteran Bob Lanier passed away on Tuesday at the age of 73 following a short illness.
Lanier spent nearly ten seasons in Detroit after being the first overall pick in the 1970 NBA Draft out of St. Bonaventure averaging 22.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game in the regular season and 25.6 points and 13.8 rebounds per contest in 22 postseason games.
The Buffalo, New York native was eventually traded to the Milwaukee Bucks midway through the 1979-80 season and spent just over four seasons there to end his career.
Lanier was an eight-time NBA All-Star (seven with Detroit) and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992.
