Red Wings Moritz Seider Named Finalist For Calder Trophy

Detroit Red Wings Defenseman Moritz Seider has been named as one of three finalists for this season’s Calder Trophy given to the National Hockey League’s Rookie of the Year.

Seider joins Toronto’s Michael Bunting and Anaheim’s Trevor Zegras as the three finalists for the award.

The #6 overall selection in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and product of Germany finished fourth in rookie scoring with 50 points, which led all rookie blueliners, and his 43 assists led all rookies this past season.

Seider would become the first Red Wings player to capture the Calder Trophy since netminder Roger Crozier won it in 1965. Since then, the Red Wings have had two players finish runner-up in Steve Yzerman (1984 – Tom Barrasso) and Niklas Lidstrom (1992 – Pavel Bure).
