For just the second time since becoming the Toledo Walleye back in 2009, the Detroit Red Wings’ ECHL affiliate has reached the league’s championship series.
Following postseason series victories over the Cincinnati Cyclones (4-3), Wheeling Nailers (4-0), and Utah Grizzlies (4-1), the Western Conference Champion Walleye get set to battle the Eastern Conference Champion Florida Everblades in a best-of-seven series looking to capture its first Kelly Cup title.
In 2019, the Walleye reached the Kelly Cup Finals but ended up losing in six games to the eventual champion in the Newfoundland Growlers.
The Walleye have been the Red Wing’s ECHL affiliate since the 2009-10 season and currently have an agreement in place through the 2023-24 season.
