Unfortunately, it was the dreaded news that every Detroit Tigers fans saw coming.
Tigers Manager A.J. Hinch recently made the announcement that Casey Mize will undergo Tommy John Surgery and will obviously miss the rest of the 2022 season.
As for the 2023 season? Mize will probably miss some, if not all, of that season as well.
Mize, the former #1 overall pick of the Tigers in the 2018 MLB Draft, pitched just ten innings this season before being shut down with right elbow discomfort. In his first full season in 2021, the former Auburn product threw 150 1/3 innings compiling a 7-9 record, 3.71 ERA, and 118 strikeouts.
