Three first-rounders in 2020, the #1 overall pick in 2021, and two more first-rounders in 2022.
Detroit Pistons General Manager Troy Weaver is not afraid to shuffle the deck and make moves on draft night.
This time around, the Pistons stayed put towards the top of the draft, and their patience would eventually pay off as Purdue’s Jaden Ivey fell right into their laps with the #5 overall pick.
In the middle of the first round, Weaver went back to work as able to work a three-team trade with the Charlotte Hornets and New York Knicks to land athletic big man out of Memphis in Jalen Duren at #13 overall.
The Pistons did take on veteran Kemba Walker’s contract in the three-team deal but are expected to buy him out. Walker is owed just $9.1 this upcoming season in the final year of his current deal.
To cap off the night, the Pistons used the #36 overall pick they acquired in the Jerami Grant trade with Portland to take Italian winger Gabriele Procida, who last played for Fortitudo Bologna of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A.
