Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings have (finally) named a new head coach, and it comes from a familiar place where “Stevie Y” once worked at.

Derek Lalonde comes to Detroit with a very impressive track record as both an assistant and head coach.

The 49-year-old native of New York spent two seasons with the Red Wings’ ECHL affiliate in the Toledo Walleye from 2014-16 that included capturing the Brabham Cup in both seasons as the league’s regular season champion and earning Coach of the Year honors during the 2014-15 campaign.
