You would think that a three-win football team with the second-worst record in the National Football League during the 2021 season would not have so much money tied up on one particular side of the football going into the 2022 season.
Well, welcome to the NFL.
Why so much money spent on the offensive side of the ball?
For starters, just look at Jared Goff’s contract.
Second, if you include Goff, the starting offensive linemen, and T.J. Hockenson’s contracts, the Lions have spent just under $80 million on those positions.
Is it a lot of money? Obviously, yes, but would you rather seem them spend more on shoring up the offensive line than overpaying for a running back or wide receiver?
