Central Michigan Chippewas head football coach Jim McElwain is sticking around the Mount Pleasant area for at least a few more years after “quietly” getting a contract extension prior to the start of the 2022 season.
During his first four seasons with the Chippewas, the 60-year-old McElwain has compiled a 24-21 record that includes a 1-1 bowl record. McElwain’s best season at CMU came in 2021 when the Chippewas went 9-4 that included a Sun Bowl victory over Washington State (24-21).
McElwain also spent time as the head coach of the Colorado State Rams (2012-14) and Florida Gators (2015-17).
During his ten-year head coaching career, McElwain has totaled a 68-49 record that includes a 3-2 mark in bowl games.
