Red Wings announce sweeping changes to Grand Rapids Griffins coaching staff

Following a last place finish in the Central Division and missing the playoffs for a third consecutive season (not including the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season), the Detroit Red Wings have decided to not renew the contracts of Grand Rapids Griffins head coach Ben Simon and three assistant coaches.

In his five seasons at the helm, Simon compiled a 144-137-23-15 (W-L-OTL-SOL) record that included one playoff appearance during his first season in 2018-19.

The Griffins have not won a playoff series since winning the Calder Cup Championship during the 2016-17 season.
