Alex DeBrincat is returning home to Michigan.
Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings were able to swing a trade with Ottawa Senators in bringing the Farmington Hills native to Detroit in exchange for a player, a prospect, and two future draft picks.
The 25-year-old DeBrincat was a second-round pick (39th overall) by the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and has played six NHL seasons with Chicago and Ottawa totaling 379 points (189 goals and 190 assists).
DeBrincat’s new extension goes into effect this upcoming season, and he will become an unrestricted free agent following the 2026-27 season.
