Lions notch preseason-opening win against the Giants as Nate Sudfeld shows glaring issues

The Detroit Lions opened up the preseason this past Friday night with a 21-16 victory at Ford Field against the New York Giants that saw almost every key contributor for the Lions sit out.

The big highlight from the win was this long punt return touchdown scamper from Maurice Alexander Jr. early in the second half:

The big negative from the game was the quarterback play from Nate Sudfeld, who’s battling for a potential roster spot to backup starting quarterback Jared Goff, as he completed 15 of 28 passes for 194 yards and two interceptions.

Many fans right now are praising general manager Brad Holmes for signing Teddy Bridgewater to be the potential backup option to Jared Goff following Sudfeld’s underwhelming performance on Friday night.

Next up, the Lions will host the Jacksonville Jaguars this Saturday afternoon at 1 pm in their second of three preseason contests.
