Red Wings land Michigan native Jeff Petry in trade with Montreal

The Detroit Red Wings have acquired defenseman and Ann Arbor native Jeff Petry from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Gustav Lindstrom and a 2025 conditional fourth-round pick.

The 35-year-old Petry has spent the better part of 14 seasons in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens, and Pittsburgh Penguins totaling 97 goals and 269 assists.

Petry also skated three seasons collegiately for the Michigan State Spartans from 2007-10 and currently has two years left on his contract at $12.5 million.

The 24-year-old Lindstrom heads back to the team that drafted him 38th overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft after appearing in 128 games for the Red Wings notching 2 goals and 23 assists.
