September is here, and the Detroit Tigers are actually playing some meaningful baseball during the final month of the regular season for the first time in….let’s just say awhile.
After another solid homestand that saw the Tigers go 4-2 against the Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox where they took two of three from both teams, Detroit now sits at 70-69 overall going into another West Coast trip and, believe it or not, within striking distance of an American League Wild Card spot with 23 games left.
Detroit did begin their trip out west on Labor Day dropping the first of a three-game set in San Diego against the Padres by a 3-0 decision.
Tarik Skubal continues to do his thing:
Spencer Torkelson’s swing continues to get better:
Kerry Carpenter and Riley Greene are also contributing to the Tigers’ late-season surge:
This week, the Tigers are in California for three games against the resurgent San Diego Padres on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday followed by three games against the Oakland Athletics on Friday-Sunday.
