The #2-ranked Grand Valley State Football team was back under the Lubbers Stadium lights this past Saturday evening for their GLIAC home opener and final home night game of the season as they hosted the Northern Michigan Wildcats under rain-soaked conditions in Allendale.
From the opening kickoff, GVSU left no doubt in the result as they cruised to a convincing 49-17 victory to keep the Wildcats winless on the season at 0-6 (0-2 GLIAC) while improving their overall mark to 6-0 (2-0 GLIAC).
From an individual standpoint, sophomore wide receiver Kellen Reed was recognized by the GLIAC as the Special Teams Player of the Week due in large part to his game-opening “Kick Six” to get the scoring started for the home team:
Next up, it’s a Top 25 “Battle of the Valleys” showdown this Saturday afternoon over in Saginaw as the Lakers clash with the #23-ranked Saginaw Valley Cardinals (5-1, 2-0) at 3 pm.
