It was the NBA’s turn to go into a free agent frenzy yesterday evening as teams were busy trying to load up as many high-caliber players as possible that fit their respective identity while trying to stay away from the dreaded luxury tax. As far as the Detroit Pistons are concerned, like the Red Wings, they kept their moves small and simple as the roster restoration under General Manager Troy Weaver continues.
The Pistons’ biggest move of the night came at the center position by signing 30-year-old Kelly Olynyk to a three-year, $37 million deal. Olynyk averaged 19 points last season in 27 games with the Houston Rockets, after he was traded from the Miami Heat at the trade deadline. Detroit also also brought back Guard Cory Joseph, who was waived on Saturday, for two years and $10 million and signed Forward Trey Lyles to a two-year deal for $5 million.
