The Detroit Tigers wasted no time in making a move following the completion of the 2021 World Series last night as the club has announced the acquisition of Tucker Barnhardt from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for infield prospect Nick Quintana.
The 30-year-old Barnhart provides stability at the catcher position for the Tigers next season and is approaching the club option year after signing a 4-year, $16 million deal with the Reds in 2017 that included a fifth-year option at $7.5 million.
Last season, Barnhardt hit .247 with seven homers and 48 RBI in 116 games and is a career .246 hitter with 51 home runs and 261 RBI in 746 career games played.
On the flip side, Nick Quintana was drafted by the Tigers in the second round of the 2019 MLB Draft and has struggled at the minor league level thus far batting just .190 with 11 homers and 64 RBI in 155 games played between West Michigan, Lakeland, Connecticut, and rookie ball.
