Lions Sign Michigan Native & Former Wolverine Devin Funchess

Devin Funchess is coming back home.

The former Farmington Hills Harrison High School and Michigan product has agreed on a free agency deal with the Detroit Lions as a tight end.

Funchess has not played in a National Football League game since the 2019 season and opted out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last season, Funchess was injured and eventually released by the Green Bay Packers and would later sign with the San Francisco 49ers practice squad, but did not see the field.

After being drafted by the Carolina Panthers with the 41st overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Funchess spent four seasons in Carolina and one in Indianapolis totaling 173 receptions for 2,417 yards and 22 touchdowns in 45 games played.

In three seasons in Ann Arbor, Funchess caught 126 passes for 1,715 yards and 15 touchdowns in 37 games.
