Former Michigan & Lions Head Coach Gary Moeller Dies At Age 81

Former University of Michigan and Detroit Lions Head Coach Gary Moeller has passed away at the age of 81.

Moeller served as the Wolverines’ head coach from 1990-94 compiling a 50-37-6 record that included three Big Ten Championships and a 4-1 record in bowl games. Moeller’s best season in Ann Arbor came during the 1992 campaign when Michigan finished with a 9-0-3 mark and was capped off by winning the Rose Bowl over Washington, 38-31, and finishing #5 in both the Coaches and Associated Press polls.

The Lima, Ohio native also earned Big Ten Coach of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons in 1991 and 1992.

In 2000, Moeller replaced Bobby Ross, who resigned after the ninth game of the season, as interim head coach of the Lions and went 4-3 in the final seven games of the season.
