Red Wings Hire Jay Varady As Assistant Coach

The Detroit Red Wings were not done with piecing together its coaching staff around new head coach Derek Lalonde as the team recently announced the hiring of Jay Varady as assistant coach.

Varady spent three of the last four seasons as the head coach of the Tucson Roadrunners, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Arizona Coyotes. The 44-year-old spent the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach with the Coyotes.

The Illinois native joins a current coaching staff consisting of Lalonde (head coach), Bob Boughner (associate coach), Alex Tanguay (assistant coach), and Alex Westlund (goaltending coach).
