Dwane Casey steps down as Pistons head coach after five seasons

After five seasons serving as the head coach of the Detroit Pistons, Dwane Casey has decided to step down following a 17-65 mark during the 2022-23 season and will take a front office position with the organization.

The soon-to-be 66-year-old Casey had one year remaining on his contract after signing a one-year extension in May of 2021.

During his five years in Detroit, Casey compiled a 121-263 record that included reaching the playoffs in his first season in 2018-19 in which the eighth-seeded Pistons were swept in four games by the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks.

Casey’s NBA head coaching career lasted 14 seasons between the Minnesota Timberwolves (2005-07), Toronto Raptors (2011-18), and Detroit Pistons (2018-23).
