Pistons tumble in NBA Draft Lottery, fall to the 5th overall pick

Just like the Detroit Red Wings with the NHL Draft Lottery, the Detroit Pistons did not have any luck in this year’s NBA Draft Lottery.

After finishing with a league-worst 17-65 record during the 2022-23 season, the Pistons came into the lottery with a 14% chance of landing the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, tied with the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs with the best odds, and could not fall farther than fifth in the upcoming draft.

However, luck was not their side.

Here’s who Pistons general manager Troy Weaver has taken in the first-round of the NBA Draft since landing in Detroit:

2020 – Killian Hayes (7th overall), Isaiah Stewart (16th overall), Saddiq Bey (19th overall)
2021 – Cade Cunningham (1st overall)
2022 – Jaden Ivey (5th overall), Jalen Duren (13th overall)

*Saddiq Bey is no longer with Detroit after being traded to the Atlanta Hawks prior to the 2023 NBA Trade Deadline.*
