Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman was busy once again during the NHL free agency period in signing numerous newcomers to smaller deals at relatively reasonable prices.
Like last summer with Andrew Copp, the big fish in this year’s free agent class for the Red Wings was a former Michigan Wolverine in J.T. Compher, who inked a five-year deal at just over $5 million per season.

In addition, Detroit decided to buyout the final year of Kailer Yamamoto’s deal after acquiring the winger from the Edmonton Oilers during the NHL Entry Draft, and it didn’t take long for Yamamoto to find a new home:
