Red Wings sign 2023 first-round draft pick Nate Danielson to an entry-level contract

The Detroit Red Wings have inked Nate Danielson, the 9th overall pick by Detroit in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, to a three-year entry-level deal that kicks in this upcoming season.

Per a previous agreement between the National Hockey League and Canadian Hockey League, if a player signs an entry-level contract with the team that drafted them and is either 18 or 19 years old, the player either must be returned to their CHL team if the NHL team does not put them on their active roster. The player cannot play in the American Hockey League (AHL) until they turn 20 years old.

If Danielson heads back to the junior level for the 2023-24 season, it will be his fourth season with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League (WHL).
