They may be incredibly inconsistent, and they may be just a mediocre team at best, but at least the 2023 Detroit Tigers are still putting up some sort of a fight, even if they’re playing in the worst division in baseball.
Somehow, the Tigers managed to pull off a winning 4-3 week after taking three of four at home against the division-leading Minnesota Twins, but then followed it up with losing two of three on the road against the Boston Red Sox.
As we hit the middle of August, the Tigers still sit in third in the American League Central at 53-65 overall, eight games back of the first-place Twins and 3.5 games behind the second-place Cleveland Guardians.
The storylines from this past week were the Tigers’ power surge in Boston over the weekend, and Spencer Torkelson might just be starting to figure some things out with his swing.
This week, the Tigers continue their nine-game road trip with road contests against the top two teams in the American League Central:
Tuesday & Wednesday: at Minnesota Twins (Target Field)
Thursday-Sunday: at Cleveland Guardians (Progressive Field)
