GVSU Basketball: Women picked to finish tops in the GLIAC, Men tabbed third in preseason poll

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) recently released its men’s and women’s basketball preseason polls and teams prior to the start of the 2023-24 season, and the Grand Valley State Men’s and Women’s teams were picked to finish either at the top or towards the top of the league.

Last season, the Laker women finished with a 31-3 overall mark, 17-1 in GLIAC play, and swept both the regular season and postseason GLIAC championships. The Laker women made it to the Regional Final in the NCAA Tournament before dropping a close decision to the eventual National Champion Ashland Eagles.

During the 2022-23 season, the Laker men went 18-12 overall, 11-7 in GLIAC play, and made it to the GLIAC Tournament semifinal before losing to the Michigan Tech Huskies.

In regards to the individual preseason accolades, the women’s basketball team had two players land on the preseason All-GLIAC First Team, while the men had one make First-Team honors.

Lastly, the women’s basketball squad comes into the 2023-24 as one of the top teams in the country according to the preseason coaches poll.
