The #2-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers took to Lubbers Stadium this past Saturday for the playoff opener against a familiar foe in the two-time defending National Champion Ferris State Bulldogs.

Unlike the first matchup, the rematch featured a defensive struggle that saw a 7-7 halftime game result in the Lakers making one extra play through the air in the second half to come away victorious by a 21-14 final to advance to the second round of the postseason.

With the win, the Lakers improve to 10-1 on the season and move on to the second round this Saturday afternoon back at Lubbers Stadium against the #5-ranked Pittsburg State Gorillas, marking the first all-time meeting between the two programs.
