The fans were begging for the Detroit Lions to sign Michigan Panthers star kicker Jake Bates once the United Football League (UFL) season ended, and their wishes were granted.

The 24-year-old Bates was 21-for-28 on field goal attempts this past season with the Panthers and will compete for the starting job with Michael Badgley and rookie free agent and former Michigan Wolverine James Turner.
