Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko highlight Red Wings free agency

If there’s one thing that most Red Wings fans need to remember, it’s that Steve Yzerman runs on his own schedule, and no one else’s.

Case in point, the NHL free agency cycle.

Just when you thought the Red Wings were going to have a quiet free agency period, Stevie Y stepped on the accelerator.

First, it began right before noon on July 1st hit in re-signing playmaker Patrick Kane to a one-year deal:

Then, Stevie Y went to work on signing depth pieces to short term contracts once the free agent window opened:

And just when you thought that Stevie Y was done, he wasn’t:

In order to make big signings like Kane and Tarasenko fit within the salary cap, there had to be some cap saving moves made:
