Tigers remain the hottest team in baseball, snag A.L. Wild Card spot with six games remaining

We’ll say it again….don’t let the Detroit Tigers get hot!

Last week, the Tigers hit the road for six crucial games against a pair of current American League Wild Card teams in the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles trying to keep pace for a potential playoff spot with two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Well, all Detroit did was sweep the Royals out of their home ballpark and take two of three from the Orioles to, believe it or not, surpass the Minnesota Twins for the last Wild Card spot AND pull even with the Royals for the second Wild Card spot with six games to go, all at Comerica Park.

Here’s how the A.L. Wild Card standings currently sit with a week left:

Baltimore Orioles – 86-70 *3-7 in last ten games*
Kansas City Royals – 82-74 *Lost seven straight games*
Detroit Tigers – 82-74 *KC with the tiebreaker over Detroit*
——————————
Minnesota Twins – 81-75 (1 GB) *MINN with the tiebreaker over Detroit*
Seattle Mariners – 81-76 (1.5 GB)
Boston Red Sox – 79-78 (3.5 GB)
Tampa Bay Rays – 78-78 (4 GB)

The Tigers have gotten it done in all facets during his improbable surge into playoff contention.

Before we forget, the best pitching prospect in baseball got the call up to the big club:

To conclude the regular season, the Tigers host the Tampa Bay Rays for three on Tuesday-Thursday and the league-worst Chicago White Sox on Friday-Sunday.

Here’s hoping Detroit locks down a playoff berth for the first time since 2014.
