The Detroit Tigers continue to find ways to win meaningful baseball games, and this time, it came against a team that has ruled the American League for the previous seven seasons.
In the best-of-three American League Wild Card series, the Tigers traveled south to Houston to take on the Astros and did not need all three games to end their seven-year ALCS run.
In Game 1, it was a three-run second inning, Tarik Skubal’s dominance, and timely relief pitching to squeak out a 3-1 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the series:
In Game 2, the Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead courtesy of a sixth inning solo shot from Parker Meadows, and after giving up two runs in the bottom of the seventh, Detroit struck with authority in the eighth inning to seize permanent control of the game and series:
The Tigers won their first playoff games and series for the first time since the 2013 postseason and now get ready for a best-of-five American League Divisional round matchup against the A.L. Central Champion Cleveland Guardians.
